Screen_Shot_2014-10-07_at_7.49.44_PMFor years students enrolled at Our Lady of Guadalupe Roman Catholic School in Altamira Corozal have been forced to use dilapidated bathrooms, thus putting their health at risk, but not anymore because the staff and faculty of the school can boast of new bathroom facilities. Daniel Moreno, a concerned citizen, saw the need of the school and that’s where the initiative was born.

Daniel Moreno – Concern Parent

“I was informed that the school needed better bathroom facilities and God put it on my heart actually to go ahead and do this and I consulted with my team at a Crossing the Gulf Ministries and we decided to go ahead and constructed the bathroom.”

Victor Castillo – Reporter

“When you said this institute was in need of a well facility bathroom, how was the condition before you come in?”

Daniel Moreno – Concern Parent

“It is a pretty old bathroom; the toilets were on the actual septic tanks itself and outdated and I think health wise I don’t think it was good so that is how we decided to look at it for a new one.”

Victor Castillo – Reporter

“Now these bathrooms that you have assisted in one way of the other in what conditions are they in?”

Daniel Moreno – Concern Parent

“Recently on the 25th we handed over the keys to Mr. Gonzales, the Principal of the school and well everything is brand new and hundred percent working conditions.”

With the assistance of Crossing the Golf Missionary, the bathrooms were completed in six weeks at a total cost of $42,000.00.

Daniel Moreno – Concern Parent

“Cost wise I think it run about $42,000.00 it was something that God put into my heart and he provided the income for it, at the beginning we did have it and through faith we started the project and the money was facilitated and we did what we had to do and got it done.”

Victor Castillo – Reporter

“How long did it take for you all to finish it?”

Daniel Moreno – Concern Parent

“It took actually about six weeks to get it done.”

Principal at Our Lady of Guadalupe, Emmanuel Gonzales, says that the new bathrooms were of great need and will benefit a little over 270 students and 10 teachers.

Emmanuel Gonzalez – Principal.

“When I just arrived here we saw the existing bathrooms facilities were set on top of health latrines and also they were congested and it could not accommodate my 270 kids so the PTA together with myself and members of the community started to look up to building new bathroom facilities and we have been behind this for the past five years, thank God we have had input of other people Mr. Daniel Moreno and this Mission that he belongs to Gulf Ministry everybody contributed towards this facilities that we have today, our kids are happy to have this new bathroom facilities and are taking very good care of it.”

The school has hired someone to maintain the restrooms.
