Earlier this month the residents, particularly those who have descended from the founders of San Jose Palmar Village, concluded a several months long wait for a new lands committee. With the input of the Lands Department, representative of the Government as trustee to the village’s land, a legal and binding election was held on October fifth for three of the new committee members.

That should have concluded the conflict between the former committee members and descendants who claimed irregularities in how the former committee handled the village’s land affairs. Well, it is not and today there is continued contention and the latest being, that the former committee members are reportedly refusing to hand over all documents to the newly elected committee. Chairman of the village and member of the new committee, Orlando Balam told us more about the situation.

Orlando Balam – Chairman, San Jose Nuevo Palmar

Balam says up to date they have not received an audited report of the committee’s finances, which should have also been handed to the Government as a trustee. The new committee consists of Adolfo Cantun as Chair, Hildo Moh as Vice Chair, Lorenzo Aldana and Secretary and members are Dolores Velasquez, Ignacio Perez and the Village Chairman Orlando Balam.
