Last week Friday we reported on an unfortunate incident that landed one student of Corozal Junior College at the Northern Regional Hospital. The student, who is said to be a minor, was stabbed by one of his fellow classmates allegedly over a seat on the bus. The incident is said to have transpired on the afternoon of Thursday October 23rd on the school campus. To date, CJC’s administration has refused to speak on the matter simply stating that they are investigating the incident.

While the names of both the victim and his attacker are yet to be released, we do know that Corozal Police is aware of the incident and are carrying out their investigations. But it hasn’t been easy since authorities have been unable to interrogate the minor who remains hospitalized at the NRH.

According to Officer Commanding the Corozal Police Formation, Andrew Ramirez, as soon as they have all details in hand they will proceed with necessary measures.

“Just prior to the mid-day hour, we got receipt of the statement by the victim, we have peruse the investigation and my latest interview with the investigator was showing some challenges governing witnesses whilst the incident happened in the presence of several students, hey have indicated to us that they have to consult with their parent or to the school faculty and it is their right but to give material evidence in a scenario like this the students are refraining because of course for several reasons but as we stand we will continue with the investigation since we are meeting minor obstacles because the only person who can say what happened to him is the victim, if the victim cannot identify his assailant then that make it much more challenging but at this point in time we are confident that if the victim is given a few more days to properly cover where we can inform you of the different steps governing the investigation and hopefully he is a willing partner in this investigation then we can have good results as I say again it is not the intent to destroy anybody’s character but at the end of the day we have analogies like let the chain fall my may, nobody informed the accused to walk with a dangerous instrument and inflict serious harm to anybody there is repercussions, there is consequences.”

As for the victim, we understand that he has requested court action.

Andrew Ramirez – OC Corozal.

“The victim has indicated in his statement that he request court action, however as I mentioned to you it is an investigation that it need to conclude because of the absence we are making challenging in tying the nuts as normally would say.”

Ramirez added that it is imperative for school administration’s to report incidences such as the one that occurred at CJC in order to avoid further confrontation among students especially on school campus.
