Screen_Shot_2014-10-28_at_7.44.44_PMOver the weekend, San Pedro police with help from GSU members of Belize City, conducted several raids and searches to get rid of drugs, firearms, ammunition and any illicit articles off the streets. And while these reports may seem petty to the average Belizean, authorities on the island are not taking anything lightly and are treating these cases with the same severity. In the first instance 8 persons were arrested for being in possession of a pipe. According to police, a search was conducted at the residence of 40-year-old Claudia Cabanas, 19-year-old Diannie Cabanas, 21-year-old Laura Valencia, 21-year-old Nayelie Cabanas, 31-year-old Jaime Campos and 21-year-old Alexis Alvarenga in the San Juan Area. The search led police to the discovery of a silver and green metal pipe measuring 3.25 inches suspected to be used for smoking cannabis. All persons were formally arrested and charged for the crime of “Possession of pipe”.

The second set of arrests came sometime Sunday morning when a search was conducted at the residence of 51-year-old Peter Moses Hernandez, also known as Campos, in the San Juan Area. Present at the time of the search was 23-year-old Teresita Cordova, 26-year-old Marciana Campos, 47-year-old Edonia Jimenez, 44-year-old Laura Trapp, 25-year-old Pedro Campos, 19-year-old Maribeni Garcia, 18-year-old Marcos Zelaya, 21-year-old Luis Campos and four minors. The search led authorities to the discovery of a black plastic bag containing 8.6 grams of suspected cocaine. All subjects were formally arrested and charged for the crime of “Drug Trafficking”.
