During the conversation between the man alleging to be Manuel Castillo and Vilma Cervantes, the caller is heard stating that Ramon Senior was not the target, instead it was Ramon (Monchie) Cervantes Junior, the P.U.P’s Standard Bearer for Orange Walk North that was the alleged target.
All that transpired yesterday is still very fresh in our minds, and while the public sentiments vary, there is still no evidence that proves that the man, who made the call on the night of October 8th, is Castillo.
While there is still more information to digest and then some, today another revelation was made when authorities issued an updated release on the case of Ramon Cervantes Senior whose badly decomposed body was found buried in a shallow grave on a farm located in the Honey Camp Area on July 5th, 2014.
The police release states that and we quote, “With regards to the murders of 71-year-old Ramon Cervantes Sr. and 46-year-old Sonia Maribel Abac Menchu, which occurred in Orange Walk sometime around the 23rd of April, 2014 and the 1st of July 2014, police investigation has proven so far that no other party apart from wanted person Manuel Castillo and his accomplices are responsible for both murders”, end quote. Viewers may recall that the trio accused of Cervantes’s murder led police to where Sonia Abac’s body was dumped in a well, in a farm adjacent to where Cervantes was found. Of note is that while police is stating that 22 year old Guatemalan Noe Daniel Avila, 19 year old Belizean Angel Antonio Cardenas and 28 year old Belizean Mateo Pott Jr are responsible for Abac’s murder, our records show that they are yet to be charged for her killing.
And here is the next shocker. While there were countless times when we asked investigators if there was any truth to the allegation that the handcuff that was used to bound Cervantes’ hands were assigned to an officer attached to the Orange Walk Police Department, there answer was always the same “we are unable to confirm” or “the matter is under investigation.”
Today though, the department song a different tune, as they made it clear that one of their own had been placed on disciplinary charges. We are talking about P.C. 743 Javier Alvarez who, according to the report apparently sold a police service handcuff to wanted fugitive Manuel Castillo and as a result has been placed on disciplinary charges for (2) counts for Prejudice to Good Order and Discipline and has been interdicted from duty since 26th September, 2014. How police can be so certain that only those persons named are involved is yet to be revealed?
The question now is, is Alvarez still in the country. We ask, since allegations are that he is not. And while we will not delve into the sensational claim made yesterday by the man claiming to be Castillo, we must note that police are again appealing to the public to contact the nearest police station if you have any information that could assist in bringing Castillo to justice.
