Screen_Shot_2014-11-07_at_7.48.25_PMSpeculations surrounding the recent revelation made by the Cervantes family surrounding the death of Ramon Cervantes Senior continue to escalate and that’s because the allegations alone are very disturbing. Two days following this revelation to the nation, the Cervantes family decided to take the recording to the police and did so this morning at the Orange Walk Police Formation. Dalila Ical reports.

The family of the late Ramon Cervantes Senior arrived to hand in the recording of the conversation between Vilma Cervantes and allegedly Manuel Castillo this morning at the Orange Walk Police Formation, at around 10:00pm.

The family was met with the support of several Orange Walk residents. After a moment of salutations, the family walked into the police station where they remained for some time. All three, Ramon Cervantes Junior, Vilma Cervantes and his sister Marresa Martin gave statements to the police. This says Cervantes was their first contact with the police since the recording was made.

"Well I hope that as is normal the conversation was handed in, the ring leader of the ring that killed my dad mention a full name in particular and we hope that the police carry out their investigation as they would do with any other ordinary citizen that is accused or mention in a crime."

All three statements were recorded, each by separate officers said Cervantes. But how much will this help, if it will at all, in resolving the homicide of their father? Police are not speaking to the press and only released a statement yesterday where they informed the press that the case had actually been closed. Cervantes gave his reaction to the news.

“It cannot be closed and the police cannot say they are sure only God is sure about things at the end of the day. Frankly I was very disappointed when I heard that….that the investigation will not go on because it has to go on, it will go on as long as there is no closure the investigation will go on. This case cannot be closed. It is important to the nation. It is not only about our father and us and our family it is about the nation and I think this is good opportunity for us to demand transparency and demand good police work and good investigation do that frankly all the is intuitions could gain back and restore the credibility of the public.”

The family had stated that they are not conducting any separate investigation into their loved one’s untimely death, but still they hope for justice to be served in this case. The call from the person purporting to be Manuel Castillo has added wood to the fire but the circumstances surrounding the entire incident continues to leave people with many questions, one of these being whether the caller was indeed Castillo. The Cervantes family is convinced.

“It is Manuel Castillo.”

“How can you speak with such certainty?”

Ramon "Monchie" Cervantes - Son of Deceased

“Because Manuel Castillo was a customer in our store, his family has real estate property here, and as was said in the conversation their family and our family grew up as neighbors but they migrated to the US and I think he was deported and everything, but we knew each other and he used to call to the store. He used to go personally and also call in orders to the store through the telephone so we know it is Manuel Castillo.”

After the recording was handed to police and statements recorded from the three family members, police officials did not want to comment on the matter.

The Cervantes family has made it clear that they are convinced that the person on the other end of the call made to their residence on October 8th is indeed Manuel Castillo.

Yet, doubt looms. Our news team approached relatives of Castillo to inquire whether or not they were able to recognize the voice on the recording. The family would not comment much except to say that they could not make out whether it was Manuel Castillo or not. They added that they would rather reserve their thoughts given the sensitivity of the matter.
