Today 41 year old Chinese businessman Zhou Ang Tan, better known as Tony, was laid to rest by his family and friends. In honor and respect for Tan’s Belizean friends his body was taken to the La Inmaculada Catholic Church for funeral services. The body was then taken up the Yo Creek Road for cremation. Tan’s ashes, we understand, will be taken back to China by his wife and three daughters. After Tan’s cremation the Chinese Community gathered in front of Lee’s Restaurant to celebrate his life.
Tan was murdered on Friday night when two men entered Tony’s Store located on Palmar Road and shot him in the chest after which they made good their escape with an undisclosed amount of cash. Tan died in front of his wife and three children. Today in solidarity with Tan’s family the Chinese business community closed its doors here in Orange Walk hoping that the message of frustration reaches the ears of those in power.
