The Ride for Belize: Ride with Oceana initiative was launched today where participants will ride across the country. The initiative which was first held by the Social Security Board has been adopted by Oceana and in this new venture the ride is intended to create awareness on the work of the organization and the environment. As part of the initiative, Oceana has partnered with different parties in the different municipalities. In Orange Walk Ocean teamed up with the Belize Tourism Industry Association. Tourism Information officer at the BTIA, Orange Walk Jasmine Zetina told us more about the ride that kicked off this morning at Corozal.

“This ride is Ride for Belize, ride with Oceana is the first time Oceana is doing this ride and they are doing this ride to raise awareness about what Oceana is doing in Belize specifically against the offshore drilling and raising awareness about Oceana as a whole. That Oceana is here in Belize, they want to promote Belize and they want to make sure to all Belizeans that they are here and that they are her to make sure that Belize progresses along with everything that tourism encompasses as well and that is why we decide for BTIA Orange Walk and Oceana to get together nothing than two big organization to join together to promote Belize and to move forward for Belize and have Belize progress.”

The ride kicked off this morning from Corozal but anyone interested can still register at a cost of $25.00. this includes full service by Ordonez Bike Shop, basic mechanical servicing along the route, continental breakfast and lunch as well as transportation to Corozal and from Punta Gorda. At the start this morning, 30 riders rode form Corozal, and about three Mexican riders are expected to be joining them in the event.
