The Christmas holiday is the most anticipated holiday of the year. It’s the time of the year to share and care for others, but it’s also a time known for resilient criminals and opportunistic thieves. But the police in Corozal, like most of the formations across Belize, have increased their presence on the streets in order to keep unwanted visitors away from homes, businesses and the town and villages.

“I just want to emphasize that the police has stepped up all his operations capabilities, we have expanded our motorcycle patrols, a number of foot patrols out, we have our mobiles patrols out as a matter of fact we have a team now that will be going out in the villages to ensure citizens security, however, we implore in the community to do their part, if they see any persons suspicious, any vehicles please call the police.”

So how to you protect your property? Officer Commanding the Corozal Police Formation, Andrew Ramirez, shared some tips.

Andrew Ramirez – OC Corozal

“You need to be careful as to your environment how you walk around, try to not to use too much jewelry to attract attention, again for those person who have vehicles we ask them to ensure that the vehicles are properly secured, ensure that when you walk off from your vehicle you check the four doors, don’t assume that a passenger or a family member has close that specific door, so we ask you to ensure that you do that and again the drinking part, if you drink please ensure that you do not over drink and if you want to really enjoy yourself get a designated driver, we don’t want to have any fatalities, for the past few day has been very active for the police here in Corozal due to again I would suspect the release of the monies from the Belize Cane Farmers Association and we have an increase in shopping if you look at the gas station we have placed a police officer at UNO gas station because of the long traffic, we have the Credit Union, the banks we have a number of person inline waiting to do some kids of financial transaction and based on that I take nothing for granted and activated all of my officers.”

Over 30 officers are engaged in this Christmas Holidays operation. In the past, according to Ramirez, there has been a miscommunication with the general public when it comes to the phone number in the police station. To report any suspicious behavior or persons, the number to contact the Corozal Police Station is 402-0022.
