Yesterday we told you about 4 Belizeans arrested and charged for what is said to be the biggest Heroin Bust in Belize’s history. As we reported, the Anti-Drug Unit made the bust at the entrance of Corozal town last night when they intercepted a vehicle carrying more than 40 pounds of the lethal drug. The drugs were found in three bags on the back seat of a white Chevrolet Tahoe with Belize City plates. They added up to 15 parcels of Heroin along with one small piece. The total weight is 19.621 Kilograms or equivalent to 43 pounds and is estimated to have a street value in the vicinity of 10 million dollars.
Those accused were 32 year old Jose Antonio Lara a fisherman/Tour guide of Julio Street San Pedro, 30 year old Lenon Leonardo Tillett a BEL contractor of Ebony street Belize City also of College Road Corozal Town, 42 year old Gerardo Beraldo Allen, a tour guide of Back street Caye Caulker and 35 year old Heirder Martin Perez an administrative assistant for Hol Chan Marine Reserve of Escalante Subdivision San Pedro Town.
Today, the four accused men appeared at the Orange Walk Magistrates Court where they were arraigned for Drug Trafficking. The men were represented by attorney Arthur Saldivar and Magistrate Murlene Moody adjourned the case until February 23rd, 2015. All four men have been remanded to prison.
