noh_mulToday day two of the Noh Mul case was heard at the Corozal Magistrates Court before Chief Magistrate Ann Marie Smith. At the end of the hearing two witnesses had taken the stand and the case was adjourned for tomorrow when It is expected that most witnesses called by the prosecution will take the stand and be cross examined by attorney Bryan Neal representing the defendants Denny Grijalva and his wife owners of Demars Stone Company, Javier Nunez foreman of Demar’s Stone Company and excavator Operator Emir Cruz.

 

All of the defendants were criminally charged for destruction of Noh Mul an archaeological monument that sits in the area of San Juan Village in the Orange Walk District.

All four defendants were charged on the 28th of June 2013. The Grijalva’s along with Emil Cruz were charged for willfully damaging an ancient monument and removing earth from an ancient monument while Nuñez was charged for causing the destruction of an ancient monument.


The ancient archaeological site was destroyed to obtain material for road fill. We will keep following the case and bring you an update in tomorrow’s newscast. What we can tell you is that a ruling is expected by Friday
