Screen_Shot_2015-06-30_at_7.34.44_PMThis afternoon the Christian Workers Union singed a new Collective Bargaining Agreement with the Central Bank of Belize to cover the Bank’s Security Officers.

During the signing CWU President Audrey Matura Shepherd stated and we quote “Much credit needs to be given to our Members themselves, who were engaged in drafting their CBA.” end of quote. Signing on behalf of the bank was Central Bank Governor Glenford Ysaguirre who in his remarks voiced satisfaction with the businesslike and cordial fashion in which the negotiations proceeded leading up to today’s signing.

He also expressed the hope that the pending CBA to cover the rest of the CBB Staff, also represented by CWU as a separate Bargaining Unit, will follow a similar course once negotiations start in July.

While the new CBA signed today does include a modest salary increase, the focus was more on additional benefits which will see CWU Members take home more of their basic salary.  The CBA is for three years, effective January 1, 2015.  Central Bank Security Officers get a 3% increase for 2015 followed by a 2% increase for 2016.

Deputy Labour Commissioner Mrs. Paulette Wagner witnessed the CBA signing, which was done in the presence of the Chief Union Representative and his Deputy for the Security Officers, respectively Mr. Winston Anthony and Mr. Alexander Ferguson.  Also present in the CBB Boardroom for the signing were CBB Negotiating Team Members Deputy Governor Ms. Christine Vellos, Deputy Governor Ms. Marilyn Gardiner-Usher and Security Director Mr. Glen Reneau.
