Screen_Shot_2015-07-07_at_8.12.20_PMAuthorities in Orange Walk Town have their hands full investigating several reports including a missing person. At the same time they are aggressively seeking the perpetrator or perpetrators of a burglary that occurred over the weekend. We start off with the group of Cubans that were found in Orange Walk on Friday July 3rd and detained for illegal entry into the country. As reported the Cubans were fined for illegal entry after appearing at the Orange Walk Magistrate Court. And while most of the men and women could not meet the fine, today they were transported to the Hattieville Prison. Deputy Commander at the Orange Walk Police station Sergeant Nicolas Palomo told us more.

SRGT. NICOLAS PALOMO – Deputy Commander, OW Police

“They were charged a thousand and five dollars and that is the penalty for illegal entry and they have been sent to Hattieville prison and they will face a six months sentence and then deportation to Cuba.”

Maria Novelo – Reporter

“And why not expedite the process to have them deported one time instead of occupying your prison cells?”

SRGT. NICOLAS PALOMO – Deputy Commander, OW Police

“Because they haven’t paid their fines as yet but fairly if they pay their fine then Immigration will have to extradite the deportation but they are all in remand right now.”

It is believed that the Cubans were headed to the U.S and their next stop was to be the Belize/Mexican Border. Police believe they entered the country via the Western Border.
