noimageThe annual National Song Competition is back again and the National Celebrations Commission and Atlantic International Bank issuing a last call for songwriters and musicians to enter their song for the 2015 competition in both junior and senior categories.


This year the commission is doing things a bit different as they will be branching into the municipalities across the country for elimination rounds. Winners from these rounds will face each other off on stage on August 14th in Belize City. In its release the Commission states that quote, “the competition was created to give both professional and amateur song writers and performing artists an opportunity to showcase their original pieces on the grand stage each year,” unquote.


The competition is held in two categories which include the Belize Song competition in which contenders enter an “original song that reflects strong Belizean identity, flavor and rhythm and should inspire a sense of national pride and unity. It should evoke a blessing or celebrate the history, traditions and diversity of the Belizean culture.”


In the other category, the carnival song competition, original songs are used to celebrate September and other times of the year. Entries will be judged on audience appeal, musical arrangement, vocal quality, lyrical content and stage performance. The first place winners in the senior category will receive six thousand dollars, trophy, music video, and a chance to represent Belize in the region. Second place gets three thousand dollars and a trophy. First place in juniors will get one thousand five hundred dollars and a trophy while second gets one trophy and one thousand dollars. It is followed by July 11th in Punta Gorda, July 23rd in San Ignacio, July 24th in Belmopan, July 25th in Orange Walk, July 26th in Dangriga and the finals on August 14th.
