noimageThe change of weather experienced this afternoon was a welcoming treat for Belizeans all across the country but for a resident of Shipyard, the weather proved to be deadly as he was struck by an unexpected bolt of lightning causing him to lose his life. The event is an unfortunate one and is being deemed as a freak accident. From what we have been able to gather, around 2:20 this afternoon, 24 year old Johan Friesen of Camp 3 in the Shipyard community, was struck by lightning whilst walking home. Authorities say their investigation revealed that Thiessen had just left the New Land Area in Santa Martha Village where he was cutting logwood when the incident occurred. As a reminder to the public, officials say when lightning occurs; it is well-known that people should stay away from anything that conducts electricity. We’ll have more on this story in tomorrow’s newscast.
