Shortly after the lunch hour today, a small brush fire gave some homeowners on and around Poinsetta Street a big scare even though fire officials contained the fire from growing out of control. Residents in the area say that an individual intentionally set the property ablaze and instead of monitoring the burning, he vacated the premises. The flame came dangerously close to some homes in the area. Fire fighters shuttled in water from the truck’s hydrants to help put out the relatively small fire but caused some discomfort with the inhalation of smoke. Recent dry conditions and wind have increased the risk of brush fires and so officials are discouraging residents from lighting fires in residential areas which pose the highest risk.
