Over the past weeks the country’s health sector, under the leadership of Pablo Marin, has been in crisis. From rat infestation, a rat biting the toe of a new born baby to the death of a mother giving birth to her fourth child, the health sector has been under constant scrutiny. With a health system in shambles, today the People’s United Party unveiled their national plan for health care and how they want to “fix a broken system”.

As the campaigns intensify, the PUP says it has elaborated a solid plan of action that includes good paying jobs, equitable house lot distributions, quality education to proper sporting and recreational facilities. The PUP adds too that among these is the need for an affordable and efficient health care system. Party leader Francis Fonseca says spiraling medical costs, corruption and inefficiency among other things have put Belize’s Health system in a state of crisis.

“Our Health system is in crisis once more it falls to the next People’s United Party government to rescue and transform our health services to ensure quality health for all Belizeans, spiraling medical costs, corruption, inefficiency, shortage of medical supplies at hospitals and clinics, equipment breakdown, demoralized health workers and patients having their treatment unmet and their lives threatened.  The next People’s United Party government will ensure the roll out of national health insurance to all Belizeans to the rest of the country, free primary health care for all will be restored the private and public partnership in the provision and delivery of health care will continue, the establishment of a health fund to provide social assistance to deserving cases will be very, very important, people should not be dying in Belize in 2015 simply because they cannot afford medical treatment this must end and will end under the People’s United Party government this is one area for example where Petro Caribe funds can be better use to benefit the Belizean people, we will also upgrade our regional hospitals, build a full service 24 hour hospital in San Pedro and invest meaningfully in our rural facilities and services.”

Fonseca concluded his statement saying that Belizeans will soon have the opportunity to change the health care system to a better one on November fourth.

Honorable Francis Fonseca – Party Leader People’s United Party

“No longer must we and will we accept incompetent leadership at the ministry of health, the Prime Minister of this country Mr. Barrow is on record suggesting that Pablo Marin performance as a  politician is more important than his performance as a politician as the minister of health.  On November 4h the Belizean people each and every citizen of this country when they go to the polls to vote each and every one of you has an opportunity to reject this callus and uncaring.”

The PUP’s health care plan of action includes nine priority points that include the roll out of NHI, the tendering process, improved facilities, a health fund, and even a new hospital in San Pedro and the upgrade of existing facilities and services.
