The President of the Public Service Union, Eldrid Neal has been meeting with public officers both in Orange Walk and Belize City with the aim of addressing issues that the officers are very much concerned with at this point in time. The meetings have revealed that there are a number of challenges that public officers are facing. One of them is that only a portion of public officers are given the opportunity to excel and obtain privileges within their respective jobs. This morning Neal was on the Despierta Belice morning show and spoke on the issue.

“We’ve seen too often individuals being boosted by favor to move into certain capacities and positions and that kind of creates a burden on the system because the religious would have been working themselves into achieving a certain position through growth doesn’t get there in terms of service a next area of stagnation is due to the fact that the amount of redundancies in terms of some post, so many individuals holding the post and again it is a burden on government to and the Caribbean colleagues have embarked in classification programs that should standardize the post that should exist across the country so it is not looking to eliminate anyone because when you say classification folks are alarmed and worried because it may sound like if you no meet the bill will be gone no.”

In an effort to establish a balance in the distribution of wealth in our country, the government has agreed to implement a classification exercise that will serve to benefit the public officers, says Neal.

The government in any way suggesting individuals that are to go home, we are going to standardize the post, look at the work that you do, justify it, standardize the salary across the country if we are doing the same kind of job.”

And while many are alleging that the government is responsible for contributing to an imbalance in the labor force, the PSU in partnership with GOB have appointed an individual to ensure that the implementation of the classification exercise comes into effect as planned.

“We have an individual identified to sit in the Unit and in doing so you become part of the make-up of the direct strategy that in place to ensure that the parties or all parties are given their just deserve.”
