This morning the newly elected National Executive of the People’s United Party held their first meeting at the party’s headquarters in Belize City.  According to party chairman Henry Charles Usher, the main item on today’s agenda was the one hundred day plan presented by Party Leader John Briceno to the executive for approval. Also included in the discussion was the restructuring of the national secretariat, the National Executive and a position for Cordel Hyde who contested the leadership position at the National Convention on January 31st.

“As part of that plan the Party Leader listed a number of issues including the reorganization of the Secretariat and the reorganization and the restructuring and strengthening of the National Executive and his tour that he hopes to get done in all 31 constituencies within the first hundred days, those were the main three items that he brought up and the National Executive supported those positions and supported his plan.”

“Were there any discussion in terms of strengthening of the executive on persons like Cordel Hyde and his position within his party?”

Henry Charles – PUP Party Chairman

“Yes the Honorable Cordel Hyde was brought up and the Party Leader was given the permission to approach Cordel and to try to find a position, a senior position in the party for him to work.”

“There has been talk about a National Deputy Leader, did that come up?”

Henry Charles – PUP Party Chairman

“That issue I think I media created there was no such discussion with the Party Leader and the Honorable Cordel for a Deputy Leader, that discussion will now commence as the National Executive just gave him the authority to do so.”

As for unity within the party, it appears that is no longer an issue as Briceno is reaching out to all those who did not support him for the national convention.

“Since the National Convention has been reaching out to all sectors and all corners he has done quite a bit of meetings already with these key persons and he tends to meet with all the constituencies like I said within the first hundred days.”

According to Usher, this weekend the Opposition Leader heads out to Toledo as part of his national tour.
