Yesterday we told you about the trip that Prime Minister Dean Barrow took to Washington to attend the Inter-American Development Bank’s (IDB) Thirtieth Governors’ Meeting of the Central American Isthmus and the Dominican Republic Constituency.
Today Honduran news page ‘La Tribuna’ reported that president of the Inter -American Development Bank (IDB), Luis Alberto Moreno, yesterday urged finance ministers of the region to take advantage of positive situations that offers the drop in oil prices to improve productivity and increase fiscal efficiency, which many of the countries present are not doing.
Moreno advised ministers present about the opportunities to take advantage of the low oil prices, saying quote “We must use this environment to forge policies to achieve growth, stability, employment and equity in the medium and long term” end quote
Present at the meeting were Ministers from Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Panama and the Dominican Republic and representing Belize was Prime Minister Dean Barrow.
A projected average growth of 4.5 percent was discussed in the meeting for 2016; the growth was seen as a result of the expected economic recovery in the US and the fall in oil prices.
