Screen_Shot_2016-03-10_at_8.34.28_PMA local Chinese businessman is tonight clinging to life at the Karl Huesner Memorial Hospital after he sustained several head injuries at the hand of robbers who burglarized his grocery shop at gunpoint. The incident transpired sometime around 7:50 last night while local businessman, Jian Ping Rong and his wife, Xiao Hui Li, were preparing to close their establishment located at the corner of Arthur and Progress Street in Orange Walk Town. The owners of A&A supermarket were approached by two male individuals who had their faces covered with rags; the men who were both armed with a handgun forced themselves into the grocery shop and held the proprietors at gunpoint. Once inside the building one of the men proceeded to empty the cash register of about one thousand dollars in cash while the second robber pistol whipped Jian Ping Rong causing four deep cut wounds to the top of his head.


The men then made good their escape through the front door of the establishment.   Superintendent Selvin Tillett told our news team about the investigations behind the burglary and assault:

“At this point we are following certain leads and have detained some persons for questioning.”


Superintendent Tillett also emphasized the arduous work of the Orange Walk Police Formation in efforts to minimize similar incidents and keep the streets safe for all Orange Walkenos.

“We have always been doing operations targeting these sorts of things like I said you cannot stop everything but definitely you will see an increase being launched by the Orange Walk police so that the community can feel safe.”


All indications are that Xiao Hui Li remained unharmed after the incident and the latest information on the condition of Jian Ping Rong is that he successfully underwent surgery and doctors are now waiting to see how his condition will progress over the next 72 hours.
