Screen_Shot_2016-03-29_at_7.45.45_PMAn 18 year old individual is tonight recuperating at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital after he was assaulted over the Easter weekend.

Reports are that on Sunday at around 8:30 p.m. police received information of an altercation on Mahogany Street in Trail Farm Village in Orange Walk involving several youths from the area. When police arrived they found 18 year old Luis Fernando Lopez in a ditch bleeding profusely from injuries to his head and body.

He was taken to the Northern Regional Hospital suffering from head trauma, broken right rib, stab wound on the right leg and a broken jaw. Lopez was then transported to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in a critical condition. One witness to the attack told our news team that she was at home when she heard the commotion; she said that she saw one individual being attacked by a group of boys who are known to cause trouble in the area.

According to the witness, the group of young men who attacked Lopez, are part of a gang, who are constantly causing havoc in the community and while several reports have been launched at the Orange Walk Police station, nothing is being done.

Today when we visited the Orange Walk Police Station, Superintendent Selvin Tillett told us that while they have gotten reports of gang activities in the area, they have only been able to arrest and charge two individuals in connection with Sunday’s incident.

“Information is that there is a group of youths in the village causing havoc we are carrying a thorough investigation into this and whosever needs to be arrested and charge will be done when the time is appropriate.  Police have formally arrested and charged Elizabeth O’brien and Gabriel Santos for the crime of grievous harm we have information that there are other persons involved in this latest incident but as I told you earlier we are still conducting investigation and we expect to arrest other people in that same incident.”

According to Tillett, police have been conducting regular patrols in the area to deter criminal activity and is asking the residents of the area for assistance in capturing all individuals involved in Sunday’s incident.
