Many of you may be aware of the case of Christie Carrasco, a young mother who was stabbed to death over five years ago in what many believed to be case of domestic abuse as her then boyfriend was indicted for her murder. Just one month ago the case against Osmar Sabido, who was Carrasco’s boyfriend at the time of her death commenced, where he claimed self-defense. The case against Sabido concluded on the 23rd of March and a verdict was to be handed down today, the 18th of April but the family and friends of Christie received the news that the ruling was moved to a later date. Today when we spoke to Mark Chavaria, uncle of Christie Carrasco, he told us that the entire family is ready to receive closure on the death of their loved one and although the family is hoping for a guilty verdict, Chavaria told us that they are leaving it all up to the law.
“The whole family and the wider Orange Walk community was expecting to hear this verdict today because it is a sensational case that has been highly looked at in the Orange Walk community and we would have hoped that after five years, after justice has been delayed for five year that we would have gotten a ruling today but nevertheless we are still optimistic that the judge will make a proper ruling in to this case and return a guilty verdict against the defendant in this case because we believe and I think most people who are following the case and if a guilty verdict is return there will be sense of closure and there will be a sense that this person has been held for his action and he need to be punished for what he has done.”
According to longtime family friend Rosario Melendez, justice is long overdue on Christie’s case

“I am no one to condemn anybody and I leave it on the hands of the court for them to decide what they will do and I hope very much that they are fair and I also belief that if found guilty that he should pay the consequences and I feel very much for the family and as well as the accused family but like if said whatever you do here that is not right and you are sentenced then you need to pay for the crime.”
Ruling on the case is expected to be heard on the 26th of this Month.
