Today the staff and affiliates of the Social Security Board here in Belize observe the institutions 35th anniversary having officially opened its doors for operations on June 1st 1981under the umbrella of former Minister Joe Elijio Briceno who lately passed away.

This year the company’s anniversary is being celebrated under the theme Social Security celebrating 35 years of Service and Striving towards Excellency in Service. Here in Orange Walk the occasion was marked with a customer appreciation day and information fair as employees of the SSB provided valuable information about the Boards schemes and benefits that are offered to members. Service Delivery Manager at the SSB, Thurnica Middleton, spoke to us about the celebration and about some of the information that was delivered to contributory members.

“Today is the first of June and we celebrate 35 years of service and our theme is Social Security Celebrating 35 years of Service and thriving to move in excellence and service. What we have out here is information concerning the scheme; we are covering the long term, short term and also we are dealing with employers obligations.  While we register the citizens at large the day to day is to celebrate the scheme and to give information to the community. The Social Security Board opens its doors on the first of June 1981 so today is our 35ft year. To let the public know that we are having a customer appreciation day today and we invite all to come to make a visit and learn more about the scheme also we have our outreach program where we are promoting our scholarship program for last month the closing date was yesterday and we are working on that in terms of the recipient for 2016. At this time our scholarship program is geared towards the high schools and sixth form including vocational training and it is awarded every year so at this time we are involving the processing of the applicants and then the selection process will begin. It is for the entire country but the recipient comes from all the districts in Belize.”

As part of the celebration and to show appreciation….the Social Security Board handed out various prizes to members that visited the office throughout the day.
