After his recent victory as the new First Deputy Party Leader of the United Democratic Party today the Hon. Patrick Faber was sworn in as the new Deputy Prime Minister of Belize by the Governor General of Belize Sir Colville Young at the Belize House in the City of Belmopan.

Following the ceremony, Faber spoke to the media and addressed important issues of unity that have been surrounding the party since the Deputy Leadership convention that was held last week.

“They all as well accept that I am now the new deputy leader of the party that I am now the Deputy Prime Minister of the country and in fact things have improved tremendously from last week when you camp out in front of the Cabinet and I will expect that things will continue if there is anything that you continue to persist that there is still something under the circus I am telling you that by the time that we get by that 2020 convention there will not be that kind of feeling at all.”

And while only three ministers of Cabinet were present for the ceremony, Faber assured that their absence in no way means that they do not support his new position as he received many text messages from other ministers congratulating him and explaining why they could not be there.

Honorable Patrick Farber – Deputy Party Leader

“It was in short notice in fact I called many of them to invite them last night and some of them I didn’t get, it was only in Cabinet this afternoon or at midday that I extended the invitation to them and I am pleased for them for those who came but not because that they are not here that means that they did not support I received quite a number of text messages.”

Faber is confident that by the time the next election is called, most probably in 2020, the recent dissention within the UDP will have been resolved and he expects that he will receive the support of his cabinet Members to become the next successor of Prime Minster Dean Barrow as the Leader of the UDP…a position that John Saldivar also has eyes set on.

Honorable Patrick Farber – Deputy Party Leader

“In this position as Deputy Party Leader I intend to work, I intend to not sit on my hands and I intend to make sure that all who are concerned in the party who will have any say in what goes on when the leadership raise comes around and they will certain that I am the better person, that I am the best person because I will work and as I always said to people it is not just talk but you can check my record you will see that.”

Present at the ceremony were Hon. Faber’s family, friends and supporters along with members of the Cabinet and other government officials.
