Screen_Shot_2016-06-21_at_7.48.38_PMA delegation from Belize, comprising of Foreign Minister Wilfred Elrington, Brigadier General David Jones and Ambassador Alexis Rosado today met with diplomats and senior military officers of Guatemala including Guatemalan Foreign Minister Carlos Raul Morales, Guatemala's Commander of the Armed Forces, General Perez and Guatemalan Ambassador to Belize, Manuel Roland Barillas and OAS Secretary General Luis Almagro at the OAS Main building in downtown Washington DC.

The high level meeting which was scheduled to commence today at 2:00pm is a follow up to the discussions that took place in Istanbul Turkey on May 21st to discuss the Sarstoon mechanism - a plan to make certain that Belizean military and civilians enjoy full access to the north side of the Sarstoon without hindrance from the Guatemalan army.

Late this evening the OAS via their Official Vimeo account shared Secretary General Almagro’s official greeting to Foreign Minister of both Belize and Guatemala.

Up to news time the meeting was still in session. Of note is that there was no representation of the Opposition in the meeting.
