On yesterday’s newscast we told you about a seventeen year old minor from the Corozal District who is alleging that he was deliberately knocked down by police officers while riding his bicycle to work on Monday afternoon.
But while the family is accusing the officers of being at fault, tonight we can inform you that authorities are saying just the opposite as they are claiming that the minor was the one who accidentally rode into the police mobile after failure to stop while the vehicle was traveling across the road.
Dennis Arnold – Officer in Command, Corozal Police Station
“On Monday, whilst the police vehicle was travelling from north to south direction on the Olga Marin Drive, at the corner of Olga Marin Drive I think its Hidden Hill Street, a minor was riding a bicycle but that junction is a “T”, this vehicle on the straight have the right of way, the minor should have stop at that junction because it is a T, the police vehicle was passing at the same time but he was coming a bit fast and if he had ridden out into the street the police vehicle had knock him down so he turned and he knocked off the mirror from the police vehicle and I think it is somewhere in his face the mirror caught him, the police picked him up and took him to the hospital and we are still investigating that matter also.”
As a result of the accident, the seventeen year old minor sustained several injuries to the nose, shoulder, head, neck and right leg. When we contacted the family a few moments ago, we were told that the minor has been released from the Northern Regional Hospital and is recovering at his home in Corozal; however doctors are saying that he is need of a surgery due to a fractured bone in his shoulder.
