Following Friday’s press conference to discuss the William Danny Mason scandal and his involvement with cabinet Ministers and other high authorities, it seemed that all was well within the Barrow Administration as the PM made it clear that he had no intention of making changes within his cabinet.

Well, it seems that today PM Barrow had a change of heart as the announcement that came out of a special cabinet meeting earlier today, was that Minister of National Security Hon. John Saldivar was stripped from the police portfolio. So what changed between Friday and today? During a press conference called this afternoon, PM Barrow stated that the idea of Minister Saldivar maintaining that position was impractical however, Saldivar still retained the Ministry of Defense with responsibility for the BDF and Coast Guard.

“That relationship was such as to make the public and indeed myself and other members of Cabinet, uncomfortable with a situation where seeds of mistrust might not only be sowed in fact have already been planted but where the appearance are such as to oblige almost the public to at the very least question strongly that particular configuration where Minister John Saldviar and what was seen up until today as his police department are in fact advancing the investigation, the process that now centrally involves Mr. Mason and his wife or girlfriend or companion however you care to describe her.”

The Prime Minister says though, if it turns out that Minister Saldivar was meeting Mason even beyond the time he has stipulated that will be a different situation.

“If in fact, evidence and I mean evidence is unearth presented to me that would show conclusively that the minister continued in a relationship with Mr. Mason well beyond the point where he assured me he stopped then that is an entirely different matter, I repeat what I have said to you on Friday, if that ever happens that is a whole different conversation, in fact let me be absolutely straight forward and blunt, the minister understands and accepts that if that were to happen he would have to leave the Cabinet entirely and he is perfectly at ease with that because he insists that the fact are the facts and that those facts are that he did not continued his association with Mr. Mason.”

In terms of other changes made, Senator Godwin Hulse will remain as Minister of Immigration, but will surrender the Natural Resources Portfolio. Attorney General Vanessa Retreage will assume the Ministry of Natural Resources as soon as she is sworn in as a senator. During the press conference, PM Barrow, although he had already decided, would not confirm who will be the senator asked to step down because he was yet to inform the senator in question. A release from the office of the Prime Minster issued earlier today confirmed that all other current Ministerial assignments will remain unchanged.
