Last week we told you about the shooting incident that left well-known Corozaleño and UDP councillor, Guillermo Arana suffering from gunshot wounds to the right arm and to the lower abdomen. Arana was shot in the presence of his family on Wednesday July 27th while at his home in the Altamira Area of the Corozal District. Reports indicate that sometime around 9:30 that night two armed masked men forcibly entered Arana’s residence demanding for money.
CTV3 News understands that a struggle ensued between Arana and one of his attackers which later resulted in the shooting. And while police had detained two individuals whom they believed were responsible for causing the incident, tonight we can tell you that when we contacted the Corozal Police Department earlier this evening, we were informed by the Officer in Command of the Corozal Police Station, Dennis Arnold that the two male individuals have been released from police custody due to lack of evidence. Arnold added that the Arana family is currently unable to identify both men since their faces were covered and therefore makes it difficult for authorities to make an arrest.
