In keeping with the September celebration spirit, the Orange Walk Town Council will be hosting its fourth award ceremony under the management and office of Mayor Kevin Bernard in which prominent and hard-working individuals from the community will be recognized. This year the awards were divided into two categories including the Patriotic Servants Award and the Mayor’s Award.

The ceremony is scheduled to take place tomorrow at the town hall commencing at 2:00 in the afternoon where all recipients will be formally acknowledged in the presence of the organizers as well as invited guests.

“Every year ever since I become Mayor of this town we have decided to award Citizens with the patriotic servants award and we also identified individuals that they believe have contributed to the community or assisted the council in one way or the other and I give them the Mayors’ Award, there a few recipients this year, the first year we gave the Mayor’s Award to all head of Principals and then we went into the business community and then we look at NGOs’ and this year there is a mixture of those that will be taking place, so we are going to be awarding some individuals that had been working at the council, those that are in the community working with Rotaract, we are looking also at those in the church that have served their community in one way or the other and at the same time we are also awarding individuals from the community that have helped the council and have worked along with the council and so we feel that those are individuals that are deserving of the award, these are people that have committed themselves and dedicated themselves to this town in whatever means doesn’t have to have direct impact to the town council but it touched the lives of others and that is why we have identified those persons and we  will be warding them tomorrow.”

The award is issued with the objective of expressing gratitude for assistance that has been offered to the council, and this time around a total of eleven individuals are to be awarded.

Though the list of awardees for this year has already been finalized by the council there are many other individuals who are also deserving of public recognition due to the continuous hard work and commitment that they continue to display within the community, says Mayor Bernard.

I know people might say why these people why not others there is always tie for another set of persons and that is why we look at those year after year and once I am here I will continue to award the various individuals within the community with the Mayors’ Award and the Patriotic Award.”
