Screen_Shot_2016-09-29_at_8.03.17_PMTonight, 21 year old Nigel Galvez of Toucan Street in Belmopan is on remand at the Belize Central Prison for the attempted robbery against 34 year old Custom Officer, Jose Luis Acevedo. On September 14th while walking towards the main gate of his property, Acevedo reported that he encountered two male persons standing inside his yard, one of who was in possession of a firearm and pointing it towards him. Acevedo then reportedly shot at the robbers and caught Galvez on the hip while the other individual fled the scene.

Since the incident, Galvez had been under police guard at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital recuperating from injuries sustained but was released yesterday. Following his release Galvez was transported to the Orange Walk Police where he was formally arrested and charged for the crime of Aggravated Assault, Possession of a Prohibited firearm and Possession of Prohibited Ammunition.

Galvez appeared at the Orange Walk Magistrates court to respond to charges and due to the nature of the offences he was remanded to prison until his next court date, set for November 30th 2016.
