Screen_Shot_2016-10-04_at_8.12.00_PMForty six year old Belizean Chinese businessman, Jian Hua Tan is lucky to be alive tonight after he was assaulted by two male individuals yesterday at his business establishment Diamonds Supermarket located in Trial Farm Village Orange Walk District. Reports indicate that sometime around 6:00 in the evening two males, one of Hispanic descent and the other of creole descent entered the store in an attempt to rob from the establishment. The man of creole descent reportedly grabbed Tan from behind and placed a knife to his chest while he demanded money.

The individual then allegedly pushed Tan to the ground and robbed him of his wallet which contained his Social Security Card, Driver’s license, one hundred US dollars, four $50 Belize dollar notes, twenty five $2 US notes, $3,000 Hong Kong currency, $500 in Chinese currency and a $50 King George coin. The robber then proceeded to search Tan’s front pockets and robbed him of four $50 Belize dollar notes. And while all of this was happening the second robber reportedly jumped over the counter and stole a total of $200 Belize dollars from the cash register. Both men then rode off on bicycles making good their escape as they headed towards the Trial Farm Football field.

After police were alerted, they visited the scene where the surveillance camera was reviewed and as a result, one individual of Hispanic descent has been detained by Orange Walk Police for questioning. Authorities are still in search of the other individual while their investigations continue.
