Screen_Shot_2016-10-04_at_8.13.11_PMThere is a major shake-up at the Commercial Free Zone in Corozal to report tonight. We have confirmed from multiple reliable sources that Chief Executive Officer and a ranking UDP member and financier in the north, Raul Rosado Sr., who is related to former Deputy Prime Minister Gaspar Vega, has resigned from his post.

There have been multiple reports as to what led to the sudden resignation, none which we have confirmed, therefore, we can only report tonight that Rosado is no longer the Free Zone’s head honcho.

We attempted to get comment from Free Zone officials today, but no one was available for comment. The Free Zone has for a very long time operated with very little transparency, even as a heavy cloud of notoriety hangs over it.

The news of Rosado’s resignation comes as a huge surprise, especially since it was just last week that he affixed his signature to contracts for a $2.5 million dollar infrastructure project in the zone.

We will continue to try to get some official word from Free Zone officials in the days to come.
