VIPThe Vision Inspired by the People and the Belize Progressive Party today also responded to GOBs decision to sign onto the United Nations Convention against Corruption on December 9th.


In their release the VIP commends the BNTU for their strike action, stating that the teacher’s actions have forced Government to set a timeline for signing on to the United Nations Convention against Corruption. The VIP also adds that the acceptance of the UNCAC is a significant undertaking which can only be successfully implemented with the input of workers, and as such is appalled that workers representatives are absent from the deliberations leading to the signature by government of the United Nations Convention against Corruption, and urge GOB to include the BNTU in the ongoing deliberations as workers representatives.


As for the BPP, although they recognize Government’s announcement to sign on to the UNCAC, they are asking teachers not to let loose on their demands for all elected officials to adhere to good governance practices and principles, as government’s announcement is but the initial step in a process that requires, many more necessities to actually happen.


The BPP ends by making a call to everyone to demand the GOB’s expeditious carrying-out of its intent to sign on to the UNCAC, so as to ensure FULL compliance and adherence to the instrument.
