Screen_Shot_2016-10-18_at_8.00.14_PMAs the saying goes, when it rains it pours and it appears that the skies have opened on the scandals of this Government, and the Ministry of Natural Resources in particular.

In yesterday’s newscast, we began telling you about the 2012 land transaction that will have your head spinning by the time we’re finished. It involves a company called Ron J Limited and the Government of Belize. In January 19 2012, Ron J Limited bought 1.6 acres of land in the Placencia area from the Government for $6,540. It is identified by these land papers as Block 36, Parcel 3438. On August 06, 2013, he was issued a land title certificate signed by then Minister Gaspar Vega. However, on July 14, 2015, under very strange circumstances, Ron J turned around and sold back the same property to the Government. But it wasn’t for the $6,000 plus Ron J bought it for. These documents seen here, showing the sale agreement between Ron J’s director Jude Nagendran and the Ministry of Natural Resources, show that Ron J Limited got paid $1,000,000 for the same land.

According to the sale agreement, the Government consented to paying $25,000 as initial down payment, followed by monthly instalments of $20,000 at interests similar to those in the banking sector.

We do not know how it is that the Ministry could pay this sum of money for land it itself didn’t value for that amount, but we do note it was the same CEO Sharon Ramclam who was at yesterday’s press conference who signed the documents.

We are hoping to get clarification from Mrs. Ramclam as soon she becomes available for comment.
