In a second matter in Court, House Speaker Michael Peyrefitte was the one claiming a case against the Auditor General Dorothy Bradley. This is over the release of the recent Special Audit into Immigration matters by the Auditor General’s office, which is chock-full of irregularities. The House Speaker found his name in the audit report and took great offense. He wrote the Auditor General demanding an apology and when that didn’t come, he went to Court. Outside the Court, he and his attorney Marylin Williams stressed that all he wants is to clear his name.

“My client is taking to have his name cleared, our position and I really don’t like to discuss matter that are before the court so all I can say to you based on documents that has been filed is that my clients is concerned that there is potential damage to his reputation based on an error, on a point of law this is not a political application in any way shape or form it is just a matter of having his reputation not tarnished by being accused of any wrong doing.”

“I am not doing anything with any malicious intent, there was something said about me in a very important report and I can’t let that false would go unchallenged, I mean if something has been said about me that is not correct and it has serious implications then I have to take steps to try and correct it so that is all am doing here I am not trying to score any points or send any message or anything like that, my name has been called again in this report and I need to correct it.”

So how does the House Speaker expect the alleged error to be corrected? The report, already compiled, was handed to the Prime Minister and then leaked to the media and the public, way before it was tabled at the House Representatives. The Speaker’s name can’t be just erased and forgotten by everyone. Well, Peyrefitte said he has an idea about how to correct the situation, but was not willing to share it.

“No, I don’t think you would have to reprint it, in my opinion I think it requires a very simple fix but like I said I don’t want to prejudice the very good discussions we had with the Auditor General and her Attorneys on the possibility of resolving this matter so that the court doesn’t have to make any pronouncements on it, that is my desire, that is my intention, that is my hope and expectation actually.”

We will be following both of these cases carefully and provide updates as they become available.
