noimageOver the past month there have been two very alarming incidents at the Sarstoon involving the Guatemalan Armed Forces, and the BDF as well as Belizean citizens, where the GAF have denied access of the area to Belizeans. The latest encounter was recorded on Thursday November 10th when the Sarstoon-Temash Institute for Indigenous Management (SATIIM) was interrupted by Guatemalan Armed Forces (GAF) while operating in the Sarstoon River.

Today the Ministry of Defense issued a press release informing that the Belize Defense Force (BDF) received a report of an incident that occurred last Thursday, involving SATIIM.

Although the release does not make any comment on the notion made by the GAF of a protocol in the Sarstoon, it states that the matter in under investigation, sighting quote “Belizean authorities are following up with Guatemalan counterparts to get clarification on this recent incident in the Sarstoon,” end quote.
