noimageCorozal Police are investigating the armed robbery of a Chinese store in the Santa Rita area of Corozal Town on Tuesday night.

Two armed robbers targeted Ban Store located on Mile 85 on the Phillip Goldson highway just before the store closed its shutters.

The men entered the store, despite an off-duty Police Officer being on guard, and one proceeded to tackle the officer while the other demanded money as he brandished a firearm.

The store attendant, fearing for his life, handed over cash which the men took and ran away.

Reports are that the men got away with $800.

Police are investigating and are reviewing footage captured by the store’s surveillance camera to see if they can identify the perpetrators.

Corozal Police are also advising business owners to increase their guard as criminals may be urged by the Christmas season to engage in illicit activities.
