Screen_Shot_2017-01-23_at_8.05.52_PMThe family of a nineteen year old Orange Walkeno is tonight mourning his death after his life came to a tragic end, following a traffic accident on the Otro Benque Road.

Police reports indicate that just before midnight on Friday, Jerry Hernison Martinez of Black Water Creek in the Trial Farm Village was driving his motorcycle on the Otro Benque Road traveling towards Trial Farm Village when upon nearing the hill just past the Orange Walk Police Station he lost control of the motor cycle and collided into a lamp post located on the right hand side of the road causing him severe head and body injuries. Martinez was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

While authorities are still unable to determine the exact cause of Martinez’s accident, they have reasons to believe that alcohol might have been a contributing factor.

Insp. Fitzroy Yearwood - Media Officer, Belize Police Department

“We have persons in the area that said that Mr. Martinez was seeing socializing somewhere in the vicinity of Central Park in Orange Walk just minutes before he collided into the lamp post so we are definitely looking at may be that alcohol may have been the factor in this accident.”

Today when we spoke to the family of the deceased, they were still in disbelief at the sudden loss of their loved one. According to Martinez’s mother, who had spoken to him just minutes before the tragic accident, he was out visiting friends in Palmar Village and was heading home when tragedy struck.  According to his family Martinez will always be remembered as a hardworking, cheerful individual.

Funeral Services for Jerry Martinez will be held tomorrow January 24th at his residence in the Village of Trial Farm.
