Earlier in the week we told you about the works being carried out by the Orange Walk Town Council to construct a pedestrian ramp in front of the Salomon’s Seven Day Adventist School, a project, which the school and surrounding residents have been advocating for since the tragic accident which claimed the life if nine year old Gerardo Lopez in late 2015.

Today we visited the construction site where we caught up with Mayor Kevin Bernard who told us about the project’s progress thus far.

“I am happy to see that the work has been completed here there are some minor little touches that needs to finish; the painting, the necessary signage as I mentioned this morning on Despierta Belice, we have already the sign and we want to make sure that coming to the approach to the pedestrian ramp there is enough reflectors on both ends that people can be aware that you must come to a stop at the pedestrian crossing we are definitely happy and I know the residence in the area, the students and the administration here at Solomons’ School are very much please on the work that we have been able to achieve here and I am hoping that by Monday we should be opening it up and the traffic, we just need to finish off what we just carry out here and so from here we move on to the other area which we have identified by Landy’s to get that work done as well.”

The project is expected to be completed and inaugurated on Monday, after which the Council will proceed to build another pedestrian crossing near Landy’s and Sons Hardware Store.
