Last night we reported on a major firearm and ammunition bust carried out by Orange Walk police on Monday night where a high powered assault rifle and over one hundred rounds of ammunition were seized.
Until today information on this case had been unclear as police had been unwilling to release specifics on the matter. Today we can confirm however that the bust took place sometime around 4:00 p.m. on Monday afternoon while a team of police officers belonging to the Anti-Narcotics Unit were in the process of conducting a search on a residence located on Unity Street Orange Walk.
According to official police report while conducting their search they observed a male and female fleeing through the back door of the residence, both appearing to be carrying unknown objects in their hands. Both individuals were subsequently apprehended. The male individual was found with a bag containing an AR 15 rifle Caliber .223 with serial number LGC007506 and the 24 year old female was found with four magazines, one of which had twenty seven live .223 rounds of ammunition in it, while the other three were empty. Police later conducted a full search of the house resulting in the discovery of 205.3 grams of cannabis, and additional forty nine .223 rounds of ammunition along with fifty 7.62 live rounds of ammunition and a black rifle scope.
Both individuals were arrested and subsequently charged for Possession of a Controlled Drug with intent to supply, Kept ammunition without a gun license, prohibited ammunition. The 57 year old male individual was additionally charged with Kept firearm without a gun license.
Both appeared before the Orange Walk Magistrates court yesterday and were remanded to the Central Prison until their next court date scheduled for April 24th.
