As part of the village council elections held in July 2016, a new village council was elected in Concepcion Village in the Corozal District. While the PUP won four seats, the UDP won the Chairman seat and two Council member seats. Normally, following the elections officials from the Ministry of Local Government visits each community to swear in the new council members which formalises their authority to act on behalf of the community. Well, it seems the Ministry of Local Government has forgotten Concepcion Village since nearly nine months later, no official ceremony has been held. Elected Councillor Rodolfo Lainez told us why it is becoming a problem for them.

Our attempts to get an explanation from the Ministry of Local Government were futile, and we have been unable to contact the current Chairperson of the National Association of Village Councils, Ruth Staine-Dawson.
