Screen_Shot_2017-03-21_at_6.24.37_PMThe U.S. Army South, in partnership with the Belize Defense Force (BDF), and the Ministries of Defense, Health, and Education today announced the formation of a collaborative training exercise involving numerous U.S., Belizean, and international participants under the name “Beyond the Horizon 2017”. The BTH will provide free medical and dental services, as well as build medical and educational facilities throughout Belize, all valued at $10 million US dollars.

The exercise is set to start on Saturday March 25th, 2017 and is scheduled to end the second week of June, 2017. In a release issued today by the US embassy in Belize it highlights that the BTH furthers the U.S. Government’s continued commitment to the Government and people of Belize in the field of humanitarian assistance.

During the exercise, the BDF and many Belizean organizations are expected to work side by side with U.S. military forces, learning from each other and serving the Belizean people. BTH is also expected to strengthen the partnership between the United States and Belize through collaboration on a variety of projects throughout Belize.

The exercise will consist of five construction projects, namely: The Expansion of the emergency room at the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan, also the Construction of a new medical waste incinerator housing at the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan, the Construction of a new medical clinic building at the Ladyville Health Clinic, as well as the Construction of a new medical clinic building at the Double Head Cabbage Clinic and lastly the Construction of three new classrooms at St. Matthew’s Government School.

Also, as part of the BTH project medical professionals from the United States and other partner nations, will provide free general medical and dental services to the Belizean people in the Belize, Cayo and Stann Creek Districts.
