Over the past months Orange Walk Town has seen tremendous upgrades as it relates to infrastructure at the hands Orange Walk Mayor, Kevin Bernard and his council. Other areas however which falls under the responsibility of the Ministry of Works and by extension Central Government have long been neglected in Orange Walk. The San Estevan Road for example is one of those projects which has long been promised by GOB but never delivered. Today during his appearance in our Morning Show, Despierta Belice, Mayor Bernard spoke of the road’s condition and the strain it places on residents who traverse the area especially students attending Muffles Junior College. According to Bernard, he has taken the time to personally send a letter to CEO in the Ministry of Works, Errol Gentle asking for the road to be worked on.
Mayor Kevin Bernard – Orange Walk Town Council
“One of the big issues was raised to be at the sixth form was the need for the road that leads to their institution and I have written to the CEO in the ministry of works once again making a plea on behalf of the students that they need and I will share the letter with you, that they need to address that road, that road has been promised for the people of San Estevan and Progresso but while making that plea on behalf of the students of Muffles Junior college to at least if you don’t have the money Mr. GOB please pave from the bridge all the way to the school these are taxpayers as well and the dust is killing them at that area they travel every day on that dusty road and what the council has been able to do is to go in there and assist with the watering we had a few times we could not make it because the equipment was down so I made that plea.”
In the letter sent, Mayor Bernard is also asking for the Ministry to carry out various other works throughout town which fall under their responsibility but has not been carried out like the reconstruction of several pedestrian ramps throughout town.
