Screen_Shot_2017-05-30_at_7.48.29_PMThe International Diana Award is an award issued every year in Honor of the late Princess Diana of Wales to young role models from across the world who live an exemplary life by selflessly transforming the lives of others throughout their community. This year Belize was placed in the spotlight for the fourth consecutive time by the British embassy as one of Belize’s very own bright youngsters was chosen as recipient of the award.


This year the Belizean awarded was no stranger to the award committee, Seventeen year old Elsia Pop from the Toledo district received the Diana Award at the St. James's Palace in the United Kingdom on Thursday 18th May 2017, making this her second Diana award.


Back in 2015 Elsia was among the recipients of the award for her unwavering mission in keeping traditions of the Mayan people alive and for her continuous work in her community encouraging young people to sell the products they make; contributing to their education and improving their life chances. And it was these same characteristics that led Elsia to once again become one of the 20 young scholars to receive this prestigious award.


Previous International Diana Award holders from the BNE Energy for Life Program are Claudia Garcia (2014) of Buena Vista Village in the Cayo District, Elsia Pop (2015) of Bella Vista Village (Toledo District) and Ernest Anderson, 2016 of Orange Walk Town.
