But while Castro escaped public chastisement, Macebearer Brian “Yellowman” Audinette was not so lucky. You would recall that Yellowman and UDP Chairman Alberto August led disruptions of the Senate hearing two weeks ago. Yellowman even turned on members of the media and assaulted three, including Krem News’ Director Marisol Amaya. Prime Minister Barrow had not commented on the issue until today when he made himself available to interviews. He said while he supports August’s campaign, he decries Yellowman’s actions.
Rt. Honourable Dean Barrow - Prime Minister of Belize
“I think that Yellow man’s behavior is absolutely regrettable, what the Chairman of the party attempted to do shine a light on Eamon Courtney and the PUP and their hypocrisy and political dishonesty was well done, but Yellow man’s behavior in terms of the media cannot be countenance and so I certainly deplore it out of hand, again though, as I understand it he sent a letter of apology to the speaker, I think it would be good if he also sent a letter of apology to the media in particular to you madam, and whoever else it is alleged that he in fact was perhaps threatening in his attitude towards and thereafter it is as the speaker has now said a matter for the staff of the National Assembly committee but you can’t countenance that sort of thing as I said.”
During an interview with the media yesterday, Deputy Prime Minister, Hon. Patrick Faber, also highlighted that while Audinette’s behaviour was unfortunate and unnecessary, a meeting has been scheduled by the National Assembly Staff Committee so as to determine what measures will be taken.
Honorable Patrick Faber – Deputy Prime Minister of Belize
“The actions of Mrs. Vera was unfortunate I would think those actions we could have done without I think the quarrel with the media is never a good thing and the matter as far as I understand it because she is a part of the staff of the National Assembly will be sent to the National Assembly staff committee I believe we have a meeting of that staff committee set for next week at some point and I am a member of that committee and I look forward to listening to all the facts and then jointly with all the other members of that committee which includes the Speaker and President of the Senate and Opposition members and government members and be able to decide whether those actions well I can say for now for me is not warranted but what is the government and the national Assembly is prepared to do is what they will determine but sometime we get into things that are unfortunate and that for me is certainly unfortunate.”
The meeting is scheduled for next week. We will bring you updates on the outcome of the meeting as it is made available to us.
