Just after lunch time today, Belize Bank Limited located on Main Street here in Orange Walk Town was compelled to close its doors to the public after receiving threats of a bomb planted inside the building. Reports indicate that after receiving the threat shortly after 1:00 p.m., police were notified about the situation and headed out to assist in securing the immediate area.
The administration and staff of the bank as well as its customers were then evacuated from the building while La Inmaculada Roman Catholic School which is situated only a stone’s throw away from the bank, also closed its doors and immediately dismissed all students for security purposes. The Belize Defence Force explosive team was called out to the area where a thorough search was conducted. Fortunately, no explosive device of any sort was found inside the building or near the compound, therefore, normalcy within the area was restored after approximately two hours.
