There was a brazen robbery of a Corozal Town businessman in Ranchito Village in the Corozal District last Friday June 23rd afternoon.
Avinash Deshmukh, an Indian store owner, was robbed of a large amount of money at gunpoint, just after he disembarked a plane at the Corozal airstrip. Deshmukh was carrying a back pack with $54,000 which were proceeds from his business in San Pedro Town. He told authorities that as he opened the door to his vehicle, a silver in colour 4-runner that had been left parked at the airstrip, he was held up by two male persons, one who was armed with a handgun. The men came out of a grey 4-Door car that was parked behind his vehicle.
The armed assailant pistol whipped Deshmukh, forcing him to hand over the bag with cash.
The businessman suffered a cut wound on his head as a result.
Police are now looking at all angles, including whether the assault is the work persons who know the businessman. Officer in charge of the Corozal Police, Dennis Arnold, explained.
Superintendent Dennis Arnold – Commanding Corozal Branch
“About the robbery yesterday evening we believe it’s an inside job because the businessman came from San Pedro and as he landed at the airstrip, he entered his vehicle, we have two assailants approached him and I believe they hit him and ran away with his loot, right.”
