This morning six students from the Corozal District received tuition scholarships from Mr Belize, Rigo Vellos, through his gym, Spartan Fitness.

The gym offered five scholarships back in July, four for primary and one for high school but due to the needs at the high school, there was a high volume of applications which saw Vellos distribute two primary school and four high school tuition scholarships this morning.

We were there as the students received their official letters and pledged to commit to similar values which have kept Vellos on top of his game.

“I can relate to myself, coming from a single parent knowing how hard my mother had to fight and work to put bread on the table every single day, I came from a family where my mother had to work all the way from Belize City and me, my brothers and sisters were living in Corozal being raised by my grandmother so I know it’s nothing easy and for the student here the message I want you to take home use it as a tool in life please remember how hard your parents need to fight every day for your education to the extremes that they go for you to be able to have an education and cherish that and use it as a motivation for you to make sure that you finish school and you go and gain your goals get your goals and always believe in yourself, let that be your motivation every single day, my parents.  I see that we have a lot of young people with big dreams not impossible but with big dreams I see young people wanting to be doctors, people wanting to be mechanics people wanting to be chemists. As parents we need to protect that and as you it’s your dreams you also protect your dreams and goals, go and finish school, it might be expensive but it’s very worth it.”

Vellos has launched an appeal for persons wishing to assist the applicants who were not selected to contact him at 623-1984 or via his Facebook page.
