Screen_Shot_2017-08-29_at_8.03.30_PMA Mexican taxi driver and resident of Chetumal, Quintana Roo was allegedly assaulted by two Belizean nationals in the wee hours of yesterday morning. According to reports coming from the Mexican media, the alleged victim who was identified only as A.H.V. reported to authorities that he picked up two men of Belizean nationality sometime around 1:35 a.m. at a well-known casino in the Commercial Free Zone area, who requested his taxi service.

The victim added that just before entering Mexican territory, the alleged assailants attempted to take control of the vehicle and in fear for his life, upon passing the old bridge at Subteniente Lopez, he threw himself out of the moving vehicle and as a result injured his left elbow and right ankle.

The alleged aggressors then reportedly seized the taxi and drove off at a high velocity causing the vehicle to overturn less than a kilometer away from the community of Subteniente López. The report goes on to say that after the men overturned, they managed to escape between the nearby bushes and returned to Belizean territory through the Rio Hondo River.

We understand that though the alleged victim made a report to the Ministerial Police, they were unable to intervene due to the fact that the incident occurred in the Free Zone area within Belize, which is not considered a part of their jurisdiction.
